Thymogen has very limited human safety data. Most information comes from animal studies, in vitro research, or anecdotal reports. This means the true risk profile in humans is largely unknown.
Known concerns & side effects

Is Thymogen safe?
Reported side effects in Russian clinical use are described as mild and infrequent — mainly injection-site or nasal irritation — and the dipeptide itself has low inherent toxicity. But "decades of use in Russia with no major reported problems" is a much weaker safety claim than a Western pharmacovigilance record, since it relies on the same reporting systems and research network as the efficacy claims. There is no data on pregnancy, long-term daily use, or drug interactions, and unregulated peptide-vendor products carry additional, unverified purity risk.
Is Thymogen backed by real Western science, or just Russian gerontology tradition?
Overwhelmingly the latter, at least so far. Thymogen is a registered pharmaceutical in Russia with decades of clinical use and a body of Russian-language research behind it, but that research predates and does not follow modern Western trial standards — randomization, blinding, preregistration, and independent replication outside the originating research network are essentially absent. Treat the Russian clinical track record as a genuine, long-running natural experiment worth taking seriously as a research lead, not as equivalent to FDA- or EMA-grade evidence.
How is Thymogen different from Thymalin?
Thymalin is an uncharacterized polypeptide complex extracted from bovine thymus; Thymogen is the single, chemically defined Glu-Trp dipeptide that researchers isolated from that same extract because it accounted for much of the immune-stimulating activity. Thymogen is easier to synthesize consistently and dose precisely, but that is a manufacturing advantage — there is no rigorous trial comparing whether it actually works better, worse, or the same as the full Thymalin complex.
What is Thymodepressin, and why does it matter for Thymogen?
Thymodepressin is the D-amino acid mirror image of Thymogen (D-Glu-D-Trp instead of L-Glu-L-Trp). Despite differing only in the three-dimensional orientation of the same atoms, it is described in Russian research as immunosuppressive rather than immunostimulating. This L/D chirality pairing is a genuinely interesting pharmacological phenomenon and one of the more scientifically credible details in the Thymogen story — but it is also almost entirely documented by the same research network, so it should be read as an intriguing finding awaiting independent confirmation, not settled science.
